Kindergarten had a lot of fun at their Native American celebration for Thanksgiving! They made a noodle and fruit loop necklace, decorated a feather headband with Native American symbols, enjoyed a snack, and played a game in the gym. The students wore the shirts they painted last week with Native American symbols and their chosen Native American name.

Our very own Julie Voss is the recipient of this year's Illinois Principal Association, Kaskaskia Region, Friend of Education Award! This award recognizes a school staff member who goes above and beyond to help make school and student experiences better, in any capacity. Julie has done this time and time again during her 24 year tenure, many times behind the scenes without any recognition. Julie shows up and does the work. Snow cleared on a Sunday...Julie is on it. Leak in the bathroom...Julie is on it. Power went out...Julie is on it. Whatever it may be, there is no doubt Julie is on it. Because of her tireless work ethic, she has made District #12 a better place.
Julie will be retiring at the end of this school year. There is no doubt she will be missed but we are so grateful for her 24 years of hard work and dedication she has given to Breese Elementary District #12. Thank you, Julie, this is a well deserved award. Congratulations!

Another congratulations is in order...Mrs. Luebbers is the 2024 Illinois Principal Association, Kaskaskia Region, Elementary Teacher of the Year winner! This award recognizes commitment to and effectiveness in teaching and instruction. This person is passionate about helping students learn. Mrs. Luebbers certainly checks those boxes.
As her nomination states, "Mrs. Luebbers goes above and beyond for her students. She comes in every morning with a smile, greets her students in the gym, and asks them how they are doing. That makes her students feel happy. If you could see their smiles on their faces...Even her past students run up to her and give her a great big hug! When working in the class she has so much enthusiasm! Her students are so intrigued with what they are going to learn next." Speaking of her former students, earlier this year one of her former students, now a teacher, shared this, "That's what I want to be. I want to be just like Mrs. Luebbers."
Mrs. Luebbers exemplifies excellence in education and we are lucky to have her. She leads by example and is a mentor for many. Great work, Mrs. Luebbers. Congratulations!

A Great Day for FCA! Having 35 students learn about "Controlling Your Tongue," makes it a great day to be a Bobcat!
